Telling Our Stories: The Experiences of Black Girls and Women in Hockey

In partnership with Dr. Kaleigh Pennock at the RISE Youth Sports Lab, and Black Girl Hockey Club, this community-engaged project centred the voices of Black girls and women in hockey through a one-day research event in Toronto. Through skills sessions, talks, and reflection activities with 41 participants, the project explored experiences of belonging and joy in the sport alongside barriers like racism and sexism, and points to a need for stronger league accountability and continued investment in community-building spaces for Black girls and women in hockey.
